The 30,000 m² Möckernkiez borders on the south-eastern end of the newly designed Gleisdreck Park. The quarter comprises 468 residential units, which are supplemented by 2,500m² of commercial space.
This serves as a direct local supply for the residents. Additionally, a hotel blends into the complex.
The urban planning concept is based on the participation of future users and a symbiosis of 5 architectural offices. Ultimately, this led to a heterogeneous structure. The basic idea of the Möckernkiez eG cooperative is based on the idea of socially and ecologically conscious and sustainable living in a mixed and
cross-generational community, which also relies on a high degree of accessibility.
Due to the cooperative's financing problems, the building shell was suspended from completion in 2014 until work resumed in June 2016.
